Pre-operative carotid artery screening in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting
نویسندگان
چکیده
Results A total of 506 patients underwent CABG during the study period and 492 were included for analysis. 203 carotid artery Doppler ultrasound scans were performed. CAD screening was performed in 63/115 of the patients who met with class-I recommendations (history of stroke/transient ischaemic attack or carotid bruit) and 184/440 of the patients who met with class-IIa recommendations (age over 70 years and/or peripheral artery disease and/or multi-vessel coronary artery disease). There were 2 post-operative strokes, both in patients without CAD detected on pre-operative screening. Asynchronous carotid artery revascularisation was performed in 5 patients (4 prior to and 1 following CABG). Restricting carotid artery screening to class-I evidencebased recommendations criteria would have decrease the number of Doppler ultrasound scans from 203 to 115, without missing patients with CAD who actually required revascularisation.

Introduction: Doppler ultrasonography (DUS) is the most preferable method for screening of carotid artery disease in patients undergoing CABG. The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency of carotid artery disease and determine the relation between known risk factors of atherosclerosis and rate of carotid artery narrowing in order to identify high-risk groups among patients schedu...

BACKGROUND We sought to evaluate the routine echo-Doppler screening of carotid artery stenosis in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting. METHODS A total of 2179 consecutive patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting alone or with other cardiac surgery at Tehran Heart Center, Tehran-Iran, between January 2005 and January 2006 were included in this retrospective study....

Background and purpose: There is little information about the prognostic role of preoperative serum albumin levels in postoperative outcomes following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The aim of this study was to evaluate preoperative hypoalbuminemia as a predictor for complications after CABG. Materials and methods: This prospective observational study was conducted in 200 patients und...
